KENNISTON HILL INN
The Kenniston Hill Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, boasts a rich history dating back to 1797. Constructed by David Kenniston, a Revolutionary War veteran and shipbuilder, the house was originally built as a private residence. In 1798, Kenniston opened an inn at the property, offering lodging and services to travelers in the area. The Kenniston family played a significant role in the local community, with David serving as a caretaker for various town assets, including the pound, graveyard, meetinghouse, and town barn.
Over the centuries, the building has undergone various transformations. In December 2014, the Kenniston Hill Inn faced demolition due to construction plans for a nearby golf course. However, thanks to the efforts of local residents and organizations, including the ElderCare Network of Lincoln County, the building was successfully moved across the street to a new location on Boothbay Green.
In 2025, the inn was sold to Vintage Maine Homes, a company led by Patrice Cappelletti, known for her work featured on the Magnolia Network and in publications like Downeast Magazine and Fine Homebuilding . The new ownership aims to restore and preserve the inn's historical charm while adapting it for future use.
Today, the Kenniston Hill Inn stands as a testament to Boothbay Harbor's rich history and the community's dedication to preserving its heritage.
